Online English Conversation Teacher
Job Description
SpeakEasy Academy is seeking enthusiastic and patient online English conversation teachers to join our growing international team. You will conduct one-on-one and small-group conversational English sessions with adult learners from around the world, primarily based in East Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America.
Our students range from complete beginners working on foundational vocabulary to advanced learners refining their fluency and natural expression. All sessions are delivered via Zoom using our proprietary classroom platform, which includes integrated whiteboard tools, breakout rooms, and real-time pronunciation feedback.
You will follow a structured yet flexible curriculum framework that allows you to tailor each session to the individual student’s goals. Whether a student is preparing for job interviews, travel, academic study, or simply wants to improve everyday communication, you will have the tools and support to make every session impactful.
- Conduct 25-minute and 50-minute conversational English sessions via Zoom
- Teach students aged 18+ from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds
- Follow the provided curriculum framework while adapting to individual learner needs
- Write brief progress notes after each session using our online teacher dashboard
- Maintain a consistent weekly schedule (minimum 10 hours/week for part-time, 25+ hours/week for full-time)
- Participate in monthly peer observation sessions and quarterly professional development workshops
Requirements
- Native or near-native English proficiency (C1 level or above on CEFR scale)
- A recognized 120-hour TESOL certificate, CELTA, or equivalent teaching qualification
- Stable high-speed internet connection (minimum 10 Mbps upload/download)
- A quiet, well-lit teaching environment with a neutral background
- HD webcam and clear headset microphone (we provide equipment stipend for full-time teachers)
- Comfortable working with adult learners across all proficiency levels, from A1 to C2
- Ability to commit to a minimum of 10 teaching hours per week for at least 6 months
- Previous teaching or tutoring experience is preferred but not required — we provide comprehensive onboarding training
